About David Cortez
Hi! My name is David Cortez. Helping others is truly a passion of mine. In fact, I’ve been teaching and coaching in some form for most of my adult life. I discovered health and fitness about 12 years ago, and it changed everything for me. In high school I became very overweight due to a diet of mostly fast food and junk. A typical breakfast was a giant cinnamon roll, or a Cup O’ Noodles from the school cafeteria. At lunch I’d often beg for leftovers or collect change to buy a frozen burrito after already finishing my own meal. Outside of school, combos were always super sized, and giant sodas refilled at least twice. It wasn’t until after I graduated that I started to notice pictures of myself and realized I had to make a change. Over the course of a year, I lost just over 90 pounds by making simple changes to my diet and lifestyle. I followed workout plans in my garage and backyard to build up my fitness. I can’t explain how good it felt to go back to my high school several years later and blow everyone’s minds!
Like everyone, after a while my workout routing hit a rut. I grew lazy and even apathetic towards exercise, save for the weekly game of pick up basketball. I’d start another program in my backyard, then lose motivation after a couple weeks. And I definitely did not want to sign up for a “Globo Gym.” The idea of that giant space with all those people watching me exercise, “judging me,” was terrifying. One day, a group of friends decided to buy a Groupon to a local Fit Body Boot Camp gym. After my first class, I was hooked. I signed up for a membership right after the deal was up. For the first time, I had found something I could maintain for the long term. I was hooked on the short class times, the variety of workouts, but most of all, the people I worked out with and the friendships I formed.
I had been a client for over 3 years when I started feeling like I wanted to be on the other side of things: I wanted to be a coach. The owner, Josh, saw something in me and gave me a chance. I was motivated to get certified and learn more. The rest is history! I immediately realized my passion for coaching and working with clients. I craved the feeling of putting a smile on a person’s face as they walk in the door. I lived for that exhausted high five at the end of a grueling workout. I excitedly scribbled down new workout ideas to challenge and engage everyone. Even though the gym was my “second job,” it never felt like work one single day. Fit Body Boot Camp was my happy place, and being there every night made me feel unbelievably happy and fulfilled.
After coaching for 3 years, I started realizing that this was my calling in life. I wanted to share this feeling with as many people as I possibly could. It was then that I decided to become a Fit Body Boot Camp Owner. Just as FBBC has helped me realize my goals and dreams, I would like to pass it on and help as many people as possible do the same.
I believe in enjoying balance in fitness, health, nutrition, and life. I believe in having a positive mindset even when things don’t go your way. I believe in keeping a tight group around you to support you and your goals. Most of all, I believe in making fitness a FUN and enjoyable part of your life, not a chore.
